Weeman The 'weeman' was created after researching African masks and sculptures. Its headdress and symbols reflect the clothing worn by tribes in ancient Africa. This character's color scheme allows him to fit into his environment, living within wooded areas. |
Antagonist The Native American kachina dolls provided inspiration for this antagonist. The use of asymmetry also allows the viewer to visually become aware of an unbalance within the characters psyche. The color scheme is also traditionally Native American. |
Mayafish This character is the result of research done on the Mayan culture. Its face and color scheme derive from traditional Mayan masks and clothing. Its large cheekbones, helmet, and long teeth all come from early Mayan headdress. |

* This character was created to test the notion that warm colored characters appear evil or unappealing. This character is also created completely through organic curves and is symmetrical, which help it feel more visually appealing. |
Protagonist/Antagonist This illustration presents a protagonist, the flying creatures, in a battle versus an antagonist, the tall, looming creature in the middle. These designs were based off of Native American kachina dolls. |
Spider This design attempts to create an unappealing character without using any angles. The aesthetic notion that angular shapes are unappealing and that organic shapes are appealing is challenged. Color is also used here to accentuate the unappealing. |

Dragon This character was based off of researching masks from Asian culture. The significance of the masks were unimportant; the feelings during observation were the basis for the face of the creature. The body is similar to Chinese dragons found in modern parades. |
Commander In Chief This design was a play on the traditional golden age costume of super hero comics; however, it was important to create an American themed hero for our purposes. The Max Fleisher Superman was a large inspiration. |
